Formica Countertops

Formica is the original “high-pressure” or “plastic laminate” product known most for its use as countertop surfacing. Durable and very affordable, laminated surfaces are a great choice for not only countertops but also wall coverings, cabinetry and backsplash areas.

Formica is a brand of these composite materials fabricated by the Formica Corporation. In common use, the term Formica refers to the company's classic product, a heat-resistant, easy-to-clean, plastic laminate of paper or fabric with melamine resin. Originally produced in 1912 as a substitute for “mica” used as electrical insulation, the name now refers primarily to a decorative product. This product is composed of several layers of kraft paper with melamine thermosetting resin and topped with a decorative layer protected by melamine, then compressed and cured with heat to make an extremely hard, durable surface.

Why Choose Formica Countertops?

Versatile: Formica Laminate is available in a wide array of colors, including solids, patterns, wood grain and the relatively new high-definition colors representing granite and marble. In addition, Formica comes in a variety of textures and finishes including matte, polish, sparkle and leather.

Cost-effective: You won’t find a more economical countertop surface on the market than Formica! Laminate countertops are glued to a substrate material, most commonly particle board, but in special cases and for an additional cost, marine grade plywood can be used. It’s true that the laminate product is only as good as the glue that holds it, but Formica Laminate is made of the highest-quality materials. If well cared for, your Formica countertops can last for 30 or 40 years!
